What’s the difference between breast implants and fat transfer augmentation?
You can achieve breast augmentation in one of two ways: with implants or with fat transfer.
Implants are either made of silicone or saline, both of which come in different shapes and textures. These breast implants are placed either above or below your pectoral muscles and are often used to create fullness, increase size, and change the shape of the breasts.
Fat transfer augmentation uses your body’s fat sources, usually from the thighs or stomach. Fat is vacuumed from the designated areas and injected into the breasts. This method can achieve smaller increases in breast size with more natural-looking results.
Which augmentation method is right for you depends on your objective and body’s natural proportions. Dr. Arsenous and her team review your desired results to determine the best course of treatment.
What happens during breast implant surgery?
Dr. Arsenous performs breast implant surgery at her Glendale, New York, location on an outpatient basis.
You’ll receive a local or general anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Dr. Arsenous then makes incisions for the augmentation procedure. Depending on which enlargement method you chose, she may do them along the edge of your areola, under your breast in the fold, or in your armpit.
For fat transfer procedures, Dr. Arsenous liposuctions the desired fat locations (typically, she removes more than is reinserted). For implant procedures, she places the implants into a pocket either above or under your pectoral muscles and behind the breast tissue.
At the end of either procedure, she closes the incisions and takes you to recovery.
What is the recovery time for breast augmentation?
Recovery time varies based on the type of augmentation you receive. It also depends on how well you follow the post-procedure recovery instructions.
Immediately after surgery, your breasts are wrapped in an elastic bandage to limit swelling, and you have to wear a supportive surgical bra during recovery. Dr. Arsenous also provides additional instructions to ensure proper healing.
Assuming you’ve followed all of Dr. Arsenous’s recovery instructions, the implants settle into place, and you’ll have the breasts you’ve always wanted.
